“Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem.” — A.A. Milne

Natalie Owings founded the Heart & Soul Animal Sanctuary in 1997 on a single acre in Northern New Mexico. She began rescuing horses, llamas, goats, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, and dogs. Today, the Sanctuary spans nearly 150 acres protected by the Santa Fe Conservation Trust and is permanently home to 25 dogs; a dozen goats and horses; 90 chickens; eight rabbits; three guinea pigs and a llama/alpaca! As well, roughly 200 puppies come through the Sanctuary each year on their way to forever homes.

“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
